Free Office Suites for Windows
One of the most comprehensive and popular office suites is Microsoft's Office 365 - which is a paid subscription service. If I regularly needed to send and receive documents to and from other companies, Office 365 would be my first consideration. There are other good office suites you can buy too, of course, so it's worth looking around.
If however, your needs for an office suite don't really justify spending money, then take a look at the great, free, fully-functional office suites on this page. They really do cover all the bases and get the job done.
Before Office 365 I had LibreOffice installed, which I used for quite a few years. I started using LibreOffice when the development for OpenOffice (its older brother of sorts) slowed down at the time.
For a quick online office solution I like Microsoft Office Online, which you can also use with a Windows phone, Android phone, and iPhone.
Over the years, the free office apps shown here have really evolved into great office suites.
I've included the more popular free office suites in no particular order. Some can be installed on your PC, and others used online. The official download links are included, and you can click on the images to see screenshots and get a general idea of how each app looks or feels.
Microsoft Office Online
From the leader in office suites themselves, Microsoft Office Online is Microsoft's free and easy-to-use online suite of office apps.
WPS Office 2016 Free
WPS Office 2016 Free is a stylish and powerful multi-language office suite, with many features, templates, and one-click language switching.
LibreOffice is probably the most popular of the community-built, regularly updated, free office suites available, and I've used it many times for work related tasks.
Apache OpenOffice was the original free office suite. When development was temporarily paused, LibreOffice sprang up to take its place. OpenOffice is still updated however, but not as often.
Showing off a fresh, new look, Zoho Docs is one of the youngest of these very capable online office suites. Like the others, Zoho offers Writer, Spreadsheet and Presentation apps.
Google Docs is Google's own free-to-use online suite of office apps. These include Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides.
SoftMaker FreeOffice 2016
SoftMaker FreeOffice 2016 is younger than some of the other office suites here, but it offers a good full office suite experience.
There you are. The main and more popular free office suites for Windows. Considering the amount of productivity you can get out of them, they really are great apps to have or use for free.
