I still have a dream

About me

My name is Grant Barker and I'm a down-to-earth and easy-going 43 year old.

I'm British and I've lived and worked in England, France, America and now Japan. I've been here in Japan for over 5 years and I teach Eikaiwa (英会話 / English conversation).

In America, in 1998, I got my Commercial Helicopter Pilot licence. This was a childhood dream. As it happens, I haven't flown now for some years.

When you move abroad or change your lifestyle, those different chapters of your life can make things new and fresh. The downside, if there is one, is that you continue to feel very young inside each new chapter, even though on the outside you are clearly not so. I have to remind myself that I don't look as young as I feel.

It's all good though. I think it's something we can only appreciate when we have left our young exterior behind.

Teaching Eikaiwa in Japan is very enjoyable and I have met and continue to meet some very nice and kind people here.

Speaking of kind people, my folks and family live in the UK. I really should visit them more often, as the time goes so quickly!

My Japanese is not great, but I'm pleased to say that I slowly learn it, and it's enjoyable.

To balance out the classroom lifestyle at work, and to keep things fresh, I like to go running, walking and cycling.

When I'm not working and I'm at home, I'm often on the PC which is my main hobby. In fact, this website was made as a way to enjoy my hobbies, while hopefully helping others too.

Recently, I've added a new page to this site offering an English checking service for foreigners. My aim is to continue doing the same job, but work more from home and spend a little less time in the classroom.

Anyway, have you come to this site with an interest in similar hobbies or research?

If I can be of any help along the way, let me know.

Take care,

Grant Barker
